How to Get Your Stolen Content Removed from Websites

Descriptive alternative text

The DMCA takedown process is a mechanism outlined in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) that allows copyright holders to request the removal of infringing content from online platforms. The process typically involves several key steps: Identification of Infringing Content, sending the DMCA Takedown Notice, and Content Removal or Access Disabling.

Note: While the DMCA is a component of U.S. Copyright law, the initiation of a DMCA Takedown does not necessarily require the content itself to be registered as officially copyrighted for the processing of a takedown notice and subsequent removal by the website owner or webhost.

Put simply: Copyright is automatic from the moment a work is created. Ownership of the content, or being the subject in a photo or video, is sufficient enough proof and reason to submit a copyright takedown notice, and result in the removal of the content.

Similarly, in Europe, the European Copyright Directive (EUCD) effectively unites copyright laws throughout much of the world under the same umbrella.
